Prominent Nashville civil rights attorney George Barrett was laid to rest Saturday.His funeral was held at the Cathedral of Incarnation on West End Avenue.
For more than 50 years, Barrett fought for equal rights, civil rights and discrimination cases.
Those who knew him admired his will to never give up.
“He would stand up for situations in which he had a big chance to lose, but he would stood on the side of the right and that way he was a great inspiration to me and other people, so I had a great respect for him,” said John Jay Hooker, a friend of Barrett.
Barrett died of pancreatitis Tuesday at the age of 86.
He is survived by his sister, three daughters, three sons-in-law, and 11 grandchildren.
