A Metro police officer broke his leg Monday night while pursuing a suspect near downtown Nashville.

The suspect, Curtis Marshall, is now behind bars.

According to police, Detective Henry Particelli pulled over Marshall for driving without his headlights on along First Avenue South at Lafayette Street around 9 p.m.

After stopping his car, Marshall exited the vehicle and started running.

Particelli chased Marshall and broke his leg in the process.

Marshall, 41, was charged evading and resisting arrest and driving on a revoked license.

He was booked into the Metro jail on $10,000 bond.

Police said he also had outstanding warrants in Rutherford County.

Det. Particelli is recovering at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
