The Nashville Sounds are commemorating the final days at Greer Stadium with a few special events. On Saturday night couples who met or married at Greer can renew their vows on the field.
Keith and Renay Brown will be among them. The Browns had their first date at the stadium eight years ago.
Renay says it was the world series ring of the former Sounds and Cincinnati Reds pitcher that originally caught her eye. Keith played with the Sounds in the late 80s and early 90s and Renay is a baseball lover. The couple decided to have their first date at Greer Stadium and it was a home run.
“I don’t remember who played, I don’t remember the score, I don’t remember anything other than he and I talked from the first pitch to the last pitch,” Renay explained to News 2.
Keith shared a similar account of the night.
“Like sometimes I’m on the mound and you are in the zone and that’s where I was. It was like I was so much in a zone with her, talking to her. I could just feel she was the right one for me.”
The Browns married two years later on the baseball field at Lipscomb University on 8-8-2008.
“Our guest were seated on the field between home plate and pitcher’s mound. Keith started the ceremony by throwing out the first pitch to the minister.”
Now six years later, the couple is excited to renew their vows where their story began.
The Brown’s will be renewing their vows with about a dozen others following the last News 2 fireworks show. It’s open to any couple who met, dated, or got married at Greer.
