Two of the Mid-State’s top two preseason District 7-AAA high school football teams will play out their rivalry on a national stage Sunday.
The Oakland Patriots and the Blackman Blaze will play their season opener on ESPN2. Kickoff is set for 11 a.m. at Blackman High School.
“Great opportunity to showcase the talent in this county,” said Thomas McDaniel head coach Oakland High School.
“It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity for our teams and maybe for our county so we’re certainly looking forward to it,” said Philip Shadowens head coach Blackman High School.
However, the most formidable opponent for both teams just may be the heat.
Forecasters are predicting the game day temperatures in upper 90’s, which could become an issue for the heat index.
According to the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association, who administers the junior and senior high school athletic programs throughout the state, if the heat index is at 105 degrees or above schools must stop all outside activity including practice and play, which could derail this much-anticipated match-up.
