Nineteen Davidson County Kroger stores donated and delivered school supplies to LP Pencil Box Tuesday.
LP Pencil Box is a school supply store that accepts donations and allows Metro’s 7,000 teachers to go “shop” for free items twice a year.
“The mission is really important. What we do here is really awesome,” said Karen Kiser of LP Pencil Box. “So many of the students in Davidson County have a great need, so teachers often are seeing children come to school without pencil or paper and again are dipping into their own pocket to buy supplies for their kids.”
She continued, “We try to offer a place where they can come in a couple times a year, shop for free and get those needed supplies in the hands of students.”
Customers helped the cause by purchasing pre-assembled supply kits sold at area Kroger stores.
“These are donations that were made at those stores from our customers and our associates,” Kroger spokesperson Melissa Eads said.
The LP Pencil Box opens Wednesday. Teachers can visit their website to schedule an appointment to go shop for their classes.
