Classes were canceled at Greenbrier High School in Robertson County Tuesday following an early morning ammonia spill.
The spill occurred in a science lab although it’s unclear how.
A teacher smelled a strong odor of ammonia just before 7 a.m. and notified school officials who notified the fire department.
As students arrived to school they were turned away and sent home.
Students who rode the bus were taken back on home on the bus.
No teachers or students were harmed.
The spill is expected to be cleaned up by Noon.
It’s unclear if an open house at the school Tuesday night will take place as scheduled.
School officials expected classes to resume on Wednesday.
The middle school and elementary school were not affected and classes went on as normal.
