On Friday, just a day after the primary, Lenda Sherrell was quietly mounting support for U.S. Congress in Tennessee’s Fourth District.
Since Sherrell was the only Democrat on the ticket, she automatically won the primary, but she was still watching the numbers come in to see who she would face in the general election.
Unfortunately, the GOP side of that race is still undecided.
Incumbent Republican Scott DesJarlais currently has a 35-vote lead over State Senator Jim Tracy.
With the race so close, it could be several weeks before a winner is officially decided.
Sherrell, of Monteagle, Tennessee, says the close margin is a good reminder that every vote counts.
“This is a clear illustration of the difference that one vote can make,” said Sherrell.
The general election is Tuesday, November 4.
The last day to register to vote is October 6.
