A man wanted in Smyrna for stealing and pawning an engagement ring was arrested Tuesday in California.

In late June, Matthew Walker negotiated with a woman to purchase the ring for $2,000 and they arranged a meeting in a McDonald’s parking lot in Smyrna.

Instead of paying the woman, Walker gave her an envelope full of paper that was cut to resemble money.

Before she recognized what was happening, he had already driven off.

He quickly pawned the ring off for $500. Police in Smyrna have been looking for him ever since.

Walker will be extradited back to Rutherford County.
