A woman is recovering after she was stabbed in the head several times late Monday night in north Nashville.
According to an affidavit, Raymond Coman approached the victim around 11 p.m. near the intersection of Dickerson Pike and Alhambra Circle and threatened to kill her. He pushed her and then took out a knife and began stabbing her in the back of the head.
A woman walking with the victim was able to jump on Coman and pry the knife out of his hands.
Both the victim and the witness then ran to a nearby resident for help.
The knife used in the assault was found on the porch at that residence.
The victim was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center with serious injuries but she is expected to survive.
Coman, 49, was found in the area arrested without incident. He was charged with aggravated assault and booked into the Metro jail on $80,000 bond.
Although a motive was not released, police said Coman and the victim know each other and the crime was not random.
The investigation is ongoing.
