Former Vanderbilt star David Price is headed to the Detroit Tigers.
Multiple reports have Tampa Bay sending their star lefthander to Detroit as part of a three-team trade with the Seattle Mariners.
Price tweeted around 4 p.m. Thursday, “Wow… what a day!! Rays fans THANK YOU!! Great Chapter of my life just ended… ready to start a new one with the Tigers!! Thanks again.”
The former Vanderbilt star and Murfreesboro native looked like he was staying in Tampa when he made his scheduled start Wednesday, but the Tigers pulled off the deal Thursday after the A’s traded for Boston’s Jon Lester.
Price won the American League Cy Young award in 2012 and has won six of his last seven starts.
The trade now gives the Tigers the American League’s last three Cy Young Award winners.
Justin Verlander won it in 2011, Price in 2012 and Max Scherzer last season.
