Metro police are searching for two people who fled a traffic stop on Interstate 24 east Thursday morning.
Deputy Travis Perusse, who works with the Interstate Crime Enforcement Unit, stopped a 2014 black Ford Explorer at 10 a.m. for a traffic violation near mile marker 85.
While the deputy was talking to the driver and passenger, one jumped into the Explorer and drove away and the other ran toward the tree line.
Perusse tried to stop the driver but was unable to catch up with him.
ICE and patrol deputies, detectives and K-9 units helped in the search.
Law enforcement agencies from surrounding counties were notified to watch for the suspects.
