A 19-year-old college student is continuing to recover after she was bitten by a brown recluse nearly three months ago.
Jessica Blessing reached out to News 2 in response to a story reporter Nick Caloway recently did on how brown recluse activity rises during summer months.
“I don’t think people take it serious. They just take it as a spider, and no one can ever get bit, and now ever since I’ve been bit and people see my pictures on Facebook, they talk to me in town they are more aware now,” she explained.
Jessica was bitten by a brown recluse on May 10 while she was sleeping in her newly renovated bedroom.

“I woke up in the middle of the night. Around 4:30 I noticed something had bit me,” she recalled, adding, “It was itching really bad, so I went to the bathroom and looked at it and it was turning blue. It hurt really, really bad.”
Within three hours, she was vomiting and had a fever of 103.
She was hospitalized for five days and still continues to go to weekly doctor visits.
“When I was in the hospital all I did was cry and it was terrible. I did not like being in the hospital at all,” Jessica said.
According to Jessica’s wound care specialist, he has not seen a bite as severe as hers in years.
