A man was arrested Monday during an undercover prostitution sting in south Nashville.

According to an affidavit, officers called a number listed in an ad on Backpage.com and were directed them to a room at the Super 8 Motel on Spence Lane.

The room was reportedly in Derrick Stephenson’s name and he was allegedly in possession of the phone used to set up the deal.

Once at the motel, an officer paid the woman $180 and she agreed to perform sex acts in exchange.

The officer then identified himself with Metro police.

The victim said Stephenson, 28, would sit next to her as she took the calls and tell her what to say and how much to charge.

The woman said she was scared of him and that she had to pay him $40 a day to stay in the room plus half the money from every sex act.

She also stated that a few days before his arrest, she saw Stephenson punch another woman working for him because she wanted to leave.

Officers observed Stephenson arriving and leaving the room and he reportedly ran when they tried to arrest him.

Once he was taken into custody, officers found he was in possession of marijuana.

Stephenson was charged with promoting prostitution, trafficking commercial sex act, evading and resisting arrest and two drug charges.

His bond was set at $30,000.
