Titans rookie quarterback Zach Mettenberger is speaking out for the first time after he was “sucker-punched” by an Alabama fan at a Nashville bar.
“You know, it’s just, you gotta take the high road in some situations and as much media attention it got, it could have been a lot worse. It’s just something that you live and learn and you just put in the past,” said Mettenberger.
The former LSU standout was at Losers Bar and Grill on Division Street in Midtown with friends last Saturday when the incident occurred.
A man yelled “Roll Tide!” to Mettenberger, who reportedly turned around and said, “Good luck with that.”
The man’s friend then reportedly hit the Titans player.
Head coach Ken Whisenhunt said Friday that he was pleased with the way Mettenberger responded.
“The one thing I will applaud Zach on is that he did not respond, which is tough. Especially when you’re 23-years-old and you have a lot of testosterone running through your body. You gotta represent us, our team the right way.”
