A two-year-old Rutherford County boy was airlifted to Vanderbilt University Medical Center Wednesday after a near drowning.

It happened in the 2800 block of Roy Arnold Road in Murfreesboro.

Authorities said the child had been swimming in his family’s four-foot above ground pool earlier in the day before going inside.

The boy was later discovered face down in the pool. Family members immediately began performing CPR.

“He had not been in the water long,” Sgt. Chris Kauffman said. “He screamed and cried.”

The child’s identity or condition was not immediately released.
