The University of Tennessee will open the 2018 season against the West Virginia Mountaineers in Charlotte, North Carolina, the two schools announced Tuesday.
The game is set to be played on September 1 at Bank of America Stadium, which is home of the NFL’s Carolina Panthers. The time of the game has not yet been announced.
The neutral site game is the first ever meeting between the two programs and also marks the first time the Volunteers will play in Charlotte.
The Vols have two other neutral site games scheduled during upcoming seasons.
They are set to open the 2015 season at LP Field in Nashville against UAB on September 5. Their second neutral site matchup on September 10, 2016 features the Volunteers and Virginia Tech at Bristol Motor Speedway.
The “Battle at Bristol” will attempt to break the all-time attendance record for a football game.
