The Atlanta Braves have released second Dan Uggla after a sub-par first half of the season.
Uggla, a Columbia, Tennessee native, was batting .162 with two homeruns and ten RBI in 48 games in his fourth season with the Braves.
He lost his starting job to rookie second baseman Tommy La Stella, who was called up on May 28.
The release comes on the coattails of a one game suspension the Braves gave Uggla after he reported to the ballpark just 30 minutes before the start of a game in Chicago last week.
Uggla, a three-time NL All-Star, is owed more than $18 million over the remainder of this year and next season.
