A semi carrying boxes of Fruit of the Loom underwear overturned on Interstate 65 near Columbia early Thursday morning.
The crash happened around 1:30 a.m. in the northbound lanes, just south of Exit 46.
The driver told police he swerved to avoid a deer.
He was taken by LifeFlight helicopter to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville but is expected to survive.
More than 200 gallons of diesel fuel spilled onto the roadway following the crash.
Northbound traffic is affected with one lane closed. Southbound traffic is affected with no delays.
TDOT estimates the scene will be cleared by 9 a.m.
