A fresh pot of coffee led employees of a local outreach group to a burglar who broke into their business during lunch.
In June, employees at H.U.G.G.S. left their building on Dickerson Pike for a short time. When they returned they found some misplaced ceiling tiles and a fresh pot of coffee brewing.
They then noticed the intruder, 48-year-old Steven Chance.
They asked him what he was doing in the building and he left without answering, according to an affidavit.
The employees later found ice cream wrappers and food packaging. Investigators also discovered Chance had accessed a computer.
Chance was picked up this week. He was charged with burglary and booked into the Metro jail on $5,000 bond.
Police said the employees recognized Chance because he previously asked for assistance from H.U.G.G.S., which helps ex-offenders become productive citizens.
Chance has a lengthy criminal history in Nashville.
