Metro police and the Tennessee Department of Children’s Services are investigating the death of an 8-month-old baby at a home in Donelson.
The child died Tuesday morning at A Waterfall Park, a licensed in-home daycare located at 3345 Niagara Drive off Stewarts Ferry Pike.
Metro police spokesperson Don Aaron said foul play is not suspected although details surrounding the boy’s death weren’t immediately released.
According to the Tennessee Department of Human Services, A Waterfall Park has been licensed since 1998 and has the capacity for 12 children ages 6 weeks to 12 years old.
The facility is a three-star rated child care provider, the highest possible by the state.
In the last year A Waterfall Park was cited three times for employees not having proper documentation for first aid and safety training and/or references. The violations were later corrected.
A fourth violation occurred when the state learned children enrolled at A Waterfall Park had not been presented with the state-required child sexual abuse information. The violation was also corrected.
Bill Hugley, who lives next door to the childcare center, told News 2 he was unaware of any other incidents.
“My heart goes out to them, the owners of the daycare and the family,” he said. “Whenever there’s a loss of life, it’s traumatizing.”
An autopsy is scheduled to be performed Wednesday.
