After a three-year transitional period, Trevecca Nazarene University has been approved for a full and active Division II membership. Effective September 1, 2014, all 15 of Trevecca’s intercollegiate teams will be eligible for NCAA post-season play.
Athletic Director Mark Elliot says the transition to a Division II program will have a big impact on future recruiting.
“That blue disk, NCAA logo, that means something,” says Elliot. “So when our coaches can walk into a home or a school and start talking to an athlete and say, ‘We’re part of NCAA Division II, it shows accomplishment. It’s a sense of pride.”
Before starting the NCAA transitional period, the Trojans competed in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics. Once the transition began, they joined the Great Midwest Athletic Conference.
In 2012-2013, the first year in the conference, the Trojans won nine G-MAC Championships. They also won the inaugural G-MAC Presidents Cup, which is given to the most successful athletic department in the conference each year.
