The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation obtained an indictment on Monday for a Cookeville woman accused of filing a false rape report.
The boyfriend of Lacee Smith, 19, filed the report after she was released from the Putnam County jail.
The TBI began investigating the allegations in late 2013 when Smith was released on bond after a DUI charge.
Special Agents reviewed jail surveillance videos and found no evidence of a rape.
According to a release, Smith told her boyfriend she had been raped while in jail, but later admitted to fabricating the story in an attempt to gain her boyfriend’s attention.
Smith was arrested at her home on Rocky Point Road. She was charged with one count of False Reporting and was booked back into the Putnam County jail.
She was later released after posting a $2,500 bond.
