A father safely delivered his daughter on the side of a busy Delaware roadway after his wife realized they were not going to make it to the hospital in time.
“It hit fast. It came fast and we did not have any time to get [to the hospital],” new mother Melissa Alan told WPVI-TV.
The couple was about 40 minutes into their hour drive to the hospital when Melissa told her husband Joe to pull over.
“I knew I was giving birth in my car,” she recalled.
After helping his wife to the backseat, Joe quickly dialed 911.
“I saw [the baby’s head] and that’s when it hit me, ‘We’re having a baby!’” Joe said.
Despite her dramatic entry into the world, Bayleigh Kait, who was safely delivered just one minute after her parents pulled over, is healthy.
