The Nashville Predators have signed free-agent defenseman Anton Volchenkov to a one-year, $1 million contract.

Volchenkov has played in 650 NHL games with New Jersey and Ottawa posting 126 points (19g, 107a) and 424 penalty minutes. In 85 career postseason games, the Moscow, Russia native has amassed 17 points (4g, 13a) and 58 minutes.

Since the 2005-06 season, Volchenkov has the second-most blocked shots among skaters (1,395) and the 10th-most hits among defensemen (1,313).

He is a two-time Olympian, playing for Russia at the 2006 Torino Games and 2010 Vancouver Games. He also won gold with Russia at the 2009 World Championships and 2002 World Junior Championships.
