Nashville Predators alternate captain Mike Fisher is out four to six months after rupturing his Achilles tendon last week.
The team announced the injury occurred during a training session and Fisher underwent successful surgery July 3.
After trading away David Legwand last season and Nick Spaling before draft day the Predators were already down two centers. They added veteran Ollie Jokinen last week, but still find themselves looking for help in the middle.
The Predators traded a first round pick for Fisher in 2011. Since then, he’s been one of the teams’ leading offensive players finishing last season with 20 goals and 29 assists.
Fisher has 226 career goals and 255 career assists in 14 seasons.
He is entering the final year of a two-year contract and is scheduled to make $4.2 million.
