A five-year-old boy was hit by a car Sunday afternoon in Columbia.
Police said the boy attempted to cross West Third Street in front of a home to join his friends around 3:30 p.m. when the accident happened.
The child reportedly came from behind another vehicle before he was struck.
He was alert, crying and able to talk to emergency officials. He suffered a leg injury and was transported to Maury Regional Medical Center.
The five-year-old is expected to be okay.
Authorities deemed the incident an accident. No citations were issued.
