Brazil’s star forward Neymar has been ruled out for the rest of the World Cup with a fractured vertebra.
The news comes as a major blow to the host nation as Neymar, who has four goals in the tournament, will miss the semi-final match against Germany on Tuesday.
The injury occurred in the 88th of the quarterfinal matchup between Brazil and Colombia. Colombia’s Juan Zuniga collided with Neymar, his knee hitting the Brazilian star’s lower back. Neymar collapsed to the ground and was taken of the field on a stretcher.
Team doctors say they do not expect him to need surgery but will be out for several weeks.
