A mother and son in Kane County, Illinois were injured after their car fell into a sinkhole and a truck rode over them.
ABC News reports the incident occurred Tuesday morning around 4 a.m.
Juanita Pineda, 41, was delivering newspapers with her 15-year-old son Benjamin Hernandez on a dark, rural road when their car fell into a ten-foot wide sinkhole.
“My foot was on the pedal and suddenly I was underground,” Pineda said.
As she was calling 911, the situation took a turn for the worst when a man driving a pickup truck unknowingly drove over them.
Fire crews had to extricate the mother and son from the car.
Hernandez was taken to a nearby hospital where he was listed in fair condition.
His mother and the truck driver were not seriously hurt.
Police said the sinkhole may have formed from the heavy rainfall the night before.
