The Nashville Predators’ made a statement about the direction of the team by acquiring James Neal from the Pittsburgh Penguins on Friday.

Now, the newest member of the Preds locker room says he is excited to help fix the team’s struggling offense.

“To come in and be a top guy and take on a lot of responsibility in Nashville is something I am really looking forward to,” says Neal.

The 26-year old forward had 61 points (27g, 34a) in 59 games for the Penguins last season. His best season came in 2011-2012 when he finished with 40 goals and 41 assists. The Predators, however, finished 18th in the league in scoring but Neal says he thinks that will change.

“Obviously things are changing here. We are going to be a more offensive team,” he says. “I’ve talked to coach Laviolette and you know, nothing but a bright future ahead.”

The Predators acquired Neal in exchange for forwards Patric Hornqvist and Nick Spaling.
