One person was arrested late Sunday night for a shoplifting incident where an employee was pepper-sprayed while trying to stop the theft.

Chimayne Talley was identified in a photo lineup as one of the suspects during the incident on June 13 at Academy Sports located at 2350 Gallatin Pike.

An arrest warrant was issued for Talley, 29, on June 20.

According to police, when he entered the store he picked up a can of pepper spray that was for sale.

Then, he and three others grabbed several bags and began stuffing them with Nike and Under Armour apparel.

The loss prevention officer tried to stop the suspects from leaving the store, and at the time Talley allegedly pepper-sprayed him in the face and eyes.

Talley was charged with theft of merchandise over $1,000 and assault.

He also has previous theft and assault convictions.

An arrest warrant was also issued for Kiara Butler, 18, for theft in the incident.

She was taken into custody on June 20 and bonded out of jail.

The loss prevention officer and his manager believe $1,200 to $1,500 worth of merchandise was stolen, according to police.
