Metro police lieutenant resigns after rape arrest

Curtis Watkins

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) –  A Metro police lieutenant arrested earlier this month on rape charges submitted his letter of resignation Thursday.

Lt. Curtis Watkins’ resignation will be effective after he serves a 29-day suspension.

Watkins is accused of having non-consensual sex with a woman whom he had a continuing six-year romantic relationship with. One encounter occurred in 2012 and two in 2013.

Watkins was decommissioned and assigned to administrative desk duties on January 27, one day after the woman, 40, contacted police about him.

Watkins, also 40, was arrested June 13 on a three-count rape indictment.

He has since been released on a $100,000 bond.
