Runners teamed up with law enforcement Saturday to raise $20,000 for a police fund for Nashville officers.

The 6th Annual Shoney’s 5K Fun Run, Walk & Festival started at 8 a.m. at the Seigenthaler Pedestrian Bridge.

Despite the heat, participants were eager to take part in Saturday’s event.

“It was a lot of fun, there were a lot of people. A lot of people out there encouraging us, there was water everywhere, food everywhere. What more could you ask for?” stated Kim Sauerwein.

The event helped raise money for the Nashville Police Support Fund, which is housed within the Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee.

The program helps defray tuition costs for officers working to earn higher education degrees.

Each year, Shoney’s matches the proceeds from the event.

The company has raised more than $100,000 for the police department since 2009.
