Construction on a brand new ice center is underway at the new Global Mall at the Crossings in Antioch.

The Nashville Predators Ford Ice Center is part of the new re-do of the former Hickory Hollow Mall in a multi-use complex that also includes a library, new regional community center and park.

The center will feature two sheets of ice, doubling the amount of space currently available to youth hockey in Middle Tennessee.

To accommodate the new rinks, the center will feature a pro shop, café, four party rooms, eight locker rooms and 601 parking spaces.

It will also be the new home to the Scott Hamilton Skating Academy. Hamilton, a Franklin resident and Olympic Gold Medalist, will serve as the principal.

Set to open in August, a grand opening celebration for the Ford Ice Center is expected in early September with a Nashville Predators hosting their first rookie tournament.

The tournament will be held over two days and feature rookies from the Predators, Tampa Bay Lightning and Boston Bruins.
