The son of a Tennessee state representative is behind bars facing charges for shooting at a beer truck outside a Murfreesboro convenience store last week.
The incident happened Friday outside the Kountry Korner Market on Old Nashville Highway.
Detectives said Matthew “Payton” Sparks, of Smyrna, walked up to the truck with a shotgun and opened fire.
He fired one shot into the truck’s trailer as the driver drove away. No one injured.
Sparks, 22, was pulled over for DUI shortly after the incident and later developed as a suspect in the beer truck shooting.
Sparks is charged with aggravated assault. He is scheduled to appear in court June 25.
Sparks is the son of Rep. Mike Sparks who is being challenged for reelection this year by Rutherford County Commissioner Robert Stevens.
