2 Clarksville men killed after car slams into tree

Two young men were killed after they car struck a tree in Clarksville overnight Friday.

The crash happened on Garrettsburg Road near the intersection of Purple Heart Parkway just after Midnight.

Authorities reported 23-year-old Quinten Coats was driving a two-door 1991 Mitsubishi Eclipse and somehow lost control.

The car veered off the left side of the roadway, fell into a ditch and struck a large tree.

Coats was killed at the scene. His passenger, 26-year-old Chad Turner, was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where he died shortly after.

Both victims were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.

Both had also been drinking, according to the report by the Tennessee Highway Patrol.

Further details were not immediately released.
