A British war veteran who was reported missing by his nursing home was found in Normandy Friday.
According to ABC News, 89-year-old Bernard Jordan left the home on England’s south coast to mark the 70th anniversary of D-Day.
He decided to sneak away and take the trip on his own after the nursing home staff denied his request to go.
Jordan, who was wearing his war medals, joined his former Royal Navy comrades on a coach and then a ferry to travel to France.
Authorities searched nearby hospitals after Jordan was reported missing Thursday.
An officer later tweeted that they found him in Normandy for a remembrance ceremony.
Jordan was scheduled to return to the nursing home Friday evening.
Before he went back, he took a picture with a group of performers on the ferry called “Candy Girls.”
Ferry officials also treated Jordan to a cabin, free meals and a car to take him back to his nursing home.
