A 91-year-old cancer survivor participated in a full-marathon in California Sunday.
Harriette Thompson finished the 26.2 mile course in seven hours, seven minutes and 42 seconds, beating the previous record for her age group by more than an hour ABC News reported.
“I was tired at one point going up a hill and wasn’t sure if I could finish, but then I felt fine,” Harriette said.
Harriette, who has competed in the Rock ‘n’ Roll San Diego Marathon a total of 15 times, raised more than $90,000 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s Team in Training.
The North Carolina woman recently underwent nine rounds of radiation for cancer treatment.
“She is an amazing woman though I’m not as surprised by her accomplishments as everyone else is,” said son Brenny, 55, who ran the race with his mother.
Harriette said she plans to begin training for next year’s marathon and hopes to run the race even faster.
