Metro police arrested a man wanted for rape Monday afternoon near the Davidson-Wilson county line.

The victim told police she spent the night at a friend’s home in Nashville Sunday night, where the suspect, identified as German Gonzalez, was also staying.

The woman reported she woke up to find Gonzalez sexually assaulting her. Gonzalez, 20, fled the scene in a yellow Mitsubishi Lancer after the victim screamed.

Police said Gonzalez was driving on Rehnea Drive in Old Hickory around 11:30 a.m. Monday when he abandoned his vehicle and fled on foot after he spotted a marked police car.

A short time later, Mt. Juliet police received a tip from a citizen stating they saw a man matching Gonzalez’s description entering a wooded area.

Residents like Teri Fulton, who lives near the observant citizen, are grateful for their quick-thinking.

“It’s a good neighbor; at least they were watching to see what was going on,” said Fulton

As a Metro canine officer was about to enter the woods to search for Gonzalez, he exited and surrendered to authorities.

Gonzalez is charged with rape and is being held in the Metro jail in lieu of $50,000 bond.
