Christian Villanueva hit a two-run homer in the second and the Iowa Cubs beat the Nashville Sounds 5-2 Sunday in Nashville.

Villanueva’s fifth home run of the season gave the Cubs the lead for good against Nashville. Nashville pulled within a run at 2-1 in the 5th when Javier Baez’s throwing error allowed a run to score.

Nashville starter Mike Fiers (6-3) took the loss, but kept the Sounds in the game going six innings and giving up just two runs on three hits. Eric Jokish (5-4) was up to the task for Iowa. He also went six innings, but gave up only the one unearned run on two hits for the win.

Iowa added two runs in the seventh and one more in the eighth to put the game away.

The Sounds and Cubs meet in game three of their four game set Monday night at 7 p.m. at Greer Stadium.
