A group of lifeguards were honored for saving the life of a girl who had a seizure in a Columbia pool.
The event was held Saturday afternoon at the Wellness & Aquatics Complex.
Sky Petrusec was swimming in their outdoor pool on May 24 when she suffered a seizure while underwater.
A lifeguard on duty recognized the emergency and sprang into action, as did 11 other lifeguards.
They pulled her from the water and performed CPR until medical professionals arrived.
Saturday’s event was Petrusec’s way of saying thank you for saving her life.
The 12 lifeguards were in attendance, along with Petrusec, her mother and her three siblings.
Petrusec’s mother, Sabrina Munro, gave the lifeguards a card that was made by her children.
Columbia Mayor Dean Dickey also spoke at the event.
He said he would be presenting the lifeguards with recognition from the city.
