Detectives are investigating after a 36-year-old man was shot to death in north Nashville on Saturday.

Michael Weaver was killed in the area of 14th Avenue North and Cockrill streets in what authorities believe was a drug deal gone bad.

The investigation indicates Weaver and a friend drove to the area late Saturday afternoon to make a drug transaction.

The suspect reportedly got into the back of their vehicle, pulled out a handgun and demanded cash from Weaver, who was sitting in the passenger’s seat.

Weaver refused and the gunman fired.

The suspect then fled, possibly in a red Dodge Neon.

Weaver’s friend drove him to Skyline Medical Center where he later died.

He is described as a black man with short hair who was wearing round glasses at the time of the shooting. He is approximately five feet, six inches tall and weighs around 220 pounds.
