A somber memorial was held Thursday for a Goodlettsville officer killed in the line of duty on this date in 1999.
Detective Lynn Hicks was shot and killed after he was ambushed at a domestic disturbance call.
His brother, who is an officer with the Metro Nashville Police Department, was in attendance, along with his mother, Ruth.
During Thursday’s ceremony, Ruth laid a wreath at Hicks’ memorial outside the Goodlettsville City Hall.

She shared with News 2 how difficult it was to lose her son that day.
“Of course I went berserk and got my next door neighbor to drive me to Vanderbilt because I was in no shape to drive. So, of course, we got over there and, of course, the halls were lined with officers. It was just the most horrible thing it could be,” she explained.
Hicks had been with the agency for seven years and in law enforcement for 14.
He is survived by his son and daughter.
