Donnie Tyndall and Tennessee basketball added an eight recruit Wednesday, signing Tariq Owens. The forward from Odenton, Maryland is 6 foot, ten inches tall, and comes in as a freshman with four years of eligibility.
“Tariq is a very long, athletic and versatile post player,” Tyndall said. “For a guy his size, he has a really impressive skill level. He can step out and make 15 to 18 footers, and he certainly has the potential to impact the game at the defensive end early in his career.”
Owens was originally signed to play at Ohio, but was released from his letter of intent after a coaching change with the Bobcats.
He is the eighth member of Tennessee’s 2014 signing class, which has been assembled in less than one month.
Owens joins signees Devon Baulkman, Willie Carmichael, Ian Chiles, Jabari McGhee, Eric McKnight, Detrick Mostella and Kevin Punter.
