A Michigan mom paid off every students’ lunch balance at her son’s school after he was reportedly denied lunch because of an unpaid balance..
According to ABC affiliate WBND, Dominic Grant was served lunch at Dowagiac Union High School on May 2, but just after he was served, it was taken away.
“It was really embarrassing, especially in front of the whole class,” said Grant.
His high school has a policy that denies a hot lunch to students who can’t pay, according to WBND.
He had an outstanding balance of less than $5 in his lunch account.
“I was appalled that he was denied lunch and his lunch was taken out of his hands over $5,” Amanda Keown, Grant’s mom, told the station.
After hearing what happened, Keown immediately contacted the school and was told the balance doesn’t matter, even if it’s a small amount.
“She asked me, ‘Where is the cutoff? Where do you draw the line with the charges? When do you say no more?’ And I said, ‘There shouldn’t be a line,’” said Keown.
WBND reported she then paid every student’s unpaid balance in the entire school because she didn’t want another kid going through what her son, Grant, went through.
