A 40-year-old Smyrna man was indicted last week for the rape of a woman in Murfreesboro in November of 2011.

According to an affidavit, Joseph Shelton injected the victim’s arm with a date rape drug.

The victim said she became incoherent and while she had “no memory of anything,” she felt like something happened.

The woman was examined and a sexual assault evidence collection kit was used.

Last August, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation matched DNA from that kit to Shelton.

Shelton was charged with rape and booked into the Rutherford County jail last Wednesday on $250,000 bond.

He is scheduled to appear in court May 19.

Police said the victim did not know Shelton.
