A 71-year-old man from Michigan was killed by a hit-and-run driver Tuesday night as he attempted to cross Gallatin Pike in Madison.

Metro police said the victim, Allen Hoogewind, had gotten off an MTA bus with a co-worker and was crossing Gallatin Pike at Walton Lane when he was hit just after 9:30 p.m.

Hoogewind was in a crosswalk at the time although witnesses reported the driver of the car that hit him had a green light.

Hoogewind’s co-worker was not injured. Police said the pair was walking to their car in a nearby parking lot.

The driver continued south on Gallatin Pike and remains at large.

The car is described as a dark-colored, four-door sedan with possible front-end damage.

Anyone with information about the car or its driver is urged to contact Metro police at 615-862-8600 or Crime Stoppers at 74-CRIME.
