A music instructor in Hendersonville was arrested Monday for the alleged rape of a 15-year-old student.
Detectives said Charles “Charlie” Cook met the victim when he taught her guitar lessons at Hendersonville Music Academy on Old Shackle Island Road.
While the two met at the school, nothing sexual occurred there, police said.
It’s believed the relationship went on for months.
The girl’s parents became suspicious Monday and alerted authorities.
Cook, 50, was charged with aggravated statutory rape and contributing to the delinquency of a minor and booked into the Sumner County jail on $50,000 bond.
It’s not known if there are other victims. The investigation is ongoing.
In a statement, Hendersonville Music Academy said Cook was a subcontracted instructor who they no longer employ.
“We have always taken extra precautions to ensure the safety of our students and their families as they are our No. 1 priority,” the statement read. “We have served our community for many years and will continue to do our best in bringing professional music instruction in a safe, comfortable environment.”
Anyone with relevant information is urged to call Hendersonville police at 615-264-5303 or Crime Stoppers at 615-573-5400.
Cook is scheduled to appear in court on May 28.
