A 111-year-old New Yorker has earned the title of the oldest man in the world.

Dr. Alexander Imich, who was born in 1903, was surprised to learn of the achievement, WABC reported.

“I don’t know how this [happened], but it simply does,” he said.

Imich credits his long, life to being active, eating healthy and continuing to learn new things.

The Polish immigrant published a book on paranormal activity when he was 92 years old.

There are 67 women in the world who are older than Imich, which he said makes sense since, “Women are more necessary.”

Imich lives on the Upper West Side in his late wife’s former office.
