The Nashville Sounds increased their winning streak to five games Saturday with a 3-1 win over the visiting Iowa Cubs.
Nashville starter Johnnie Lowe gave up just one hit with 6 strike outs over 4 scoreless innings of work. Brent Leach followed with three scoreless innings to pick up the win.
The Sounds got out to an early 1-0 lead in the first on a wild pitch by Iowa’s Kyle Hendricks. They were able to extend the lead to 3-0 in the sixth on an RBI single from Hunter Morris and double by Jeremy Hermida.
The win gave the Sounds sole possession of first place in the division for the first time since April 17, 2011. They have won eight of the last nine match ups and will go for their sixth straight win as the continue the series against the Cubs Sunday at 2:05 p.m.
The win combined with a Round Rock loss to New Orleans gave Nashville (17-12) sole possession of first place in its division for the first time since April 17, 2011. The Sounds have won eight of their last nine games.
