A four-year-old girl was airlifted to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville after she was hit by a truck Wednesday evening.
It happened just before 7 p.m. on Laurel Lane in Murfreesboro.
Authorities said the girl was attempting to cross the street from a neighbor’s home to go back to her residence when the accident occurred. She sustained serious injuries.
Noah McAlister, 10, was checking the mailbox in front of his home when all of a sudden he witnessed the unthinkable.
“The truck hit her, I heard a boom and she was through the air, about 10 feet up in the air,” said McAlister.
The driver of the 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 Kacey Craft, 30, was not injured. He received a citation for not wearing a seatbelt.
News 2 talked with the Craft’s wife who said her husband did not see the girl crossing at the time of the accident.
She said her husband, a father of two, is distraught and is praying for the child’s speedy recovery.
Authorities said speed does not appear to have played a role in the accident.
